Description

Standing on 'The Corner' in Winslow, Arizona. This is the famous 'Route 66' - US 66. For decades this route was the main East-West highway through the central United States. This route was used by Oklahomans during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl Days of the 1930's to migrate west to California. It was made famous by John Steinbeck's book 'The Grapes of Wrath' and the subsequent 1940 movie of the same title directed by John Ford and starring Henry Fonda. Route US 66 fell into disuse after the building of Interstate 40 in the 1960's. But there are still some fabulous stretches of this classic route in Arizona, especially between Seligman and Kingman.
