Description
A hover fly (Myathropa florea).
I found one site that gives it the common name 'Dead Head Fly', but I doubt if that's correct as it's the only site that does so.
It's called 'Doodskopzweefvlieg' in Dutch, which means 'Skull Hover fly' or 'Deadhead Hover fly'. So maybe some Dutch guy made up that English common name.. ;)
Thanks for viewing ! :)

What a wonderful Macro of this pretty common little hoverfly I have not heard of the dead head name but can well understand why! The lime green light perfect clarity to the wings and DOF here adds so much to the golds! BTW Did I say I love it lol

Very impressive macro. However I can't tell a fly from another! I'm envious of you people who can tell exactly what bug is under your lens!

Fabulous macro! Complete Britsich Insects (Michael Chinery) gives it no common name, but as Danny says you can see how it got the Dutch one! Superb!

This is an excellent macro, I'm leaning more toward the photographing of insects as I learn more about my new camera so for me your gallery is one of inspiration, I'm off to the city this week for a lense or two that may help my macro photography, I'm also impressed with your cameras 7-bladed lens diaphram for true depth of field control, a very good choice of camera. I like the hoverfly, I often see them in my garden. PS: I can't wait for spring. Peter
