Description

Back at the rink... It looks like one edge of the pond had been walked on. The broken pieces turned into giant floating chunks during the thaw. When the frigid weather returned and the temperature dropped these smooth, partially melted chunks made this lovely, geometric pattern. Thanks for the visit! Jodie EDIT: I rarely ask people to zoom in, but I just tried it and would recommend it to see the edges and detail of the ice. Please visit my personal website...

It has to be COLD to re-freeze like that, well seen and captured Jodie.

Hopefully a body won't rise to the top with the spring thaw ;O) Very interesting shot. I have never seen anyone suggest that cubism got its inspiration from nature, but this picture makes me wonder... Perhaps a new art theory can be created around this idea. Hey, perhaps a government grant of some sort ;o) All kidding aside, another nice shot.

Unique ambiance in this photo of the cracking and splintered ice, which would qualify as an abstract in my book, Odie! Looks like shards of broken glass lying on top of a bed of mud. And, I like that fault line running north and south.

I like the "Cubism" in your title, and duncan's comment about cubism & nature (cubism does have a lot in common with nature, I think), and I love Harry's comment too ("broken glass lying on top of a bed of mud"). There's a lot of texture here, esp. visible on the sides where the light isn't as direct; and it's wonderful the way the ice emerges & submerges where, in spots, it's almost 'ghosts' rather than actual ice. The fault line is wonderful too. This is terrific seeing, Jodie, and just re-emphasizes that photography is a matter of finding the photograph beneath our own feet. ("There are miracles beneath my feet, if I only bother to pick them up..." an old mystical saying.) Wonderful. And a must, full-view. A little ice pond, and it's got a whole world inside it waiting for you to capture it for us...

Very appropriate title with a tongue in cheek bend, lending meaning to the display. Lovely textures Jodie. Brrrrr...

Cool shot with the crack coming towards the viewer ! The light also reflects just right off the ice :) Excellent work !

Was going to say this was cool!! I think we share the same whacky sense of humour.. Seriously an interesting image and surely we get all our inspiration in art from nature.

Looks almost unreal, nature offers surreal reality.:-)

Really impressive. I would suggest cropping off the top 1/5 and slightly on the sides to give it an even more abstract feel and better compo.
