Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Bless their hearts, I suppose they were wondering if GI had some gum or candy for them as a reward for their participation?, , great series Bill, I am thoroughly enjoying them.

Again this is fantastic Bill. Don't underestimate how great it is seeing these. I guess you can't help but wonder what became of them all.

I like this series alot! So much history thru your eyes to ours. Great image! :)

Lots of dynamics and contrast in this capture, Bill! I had the same situation when taking photos in the Philippines. Street urchins from all around would group together in a nanosecond to have their picture taken.

Fine pic, Bill.

Wonderful to see their expression. Another fine mono tone capture.

Another fascinating view of what life was like back then. Seems the soldiers always drew a crowd. Great series, Bill!

This is a fabulous capture. I have been watching 1930s movies the past two weeks on TV, and I may be even thinking in "black and white" because of it. ;o) Excellent image.

We have a fairly large refugee population here and large areas where all the stores are "cultural." I am always amazed when I go in one to see the array of items packed into a small space. All sorts of things I'd never think of! Outstanding capture.

A far eastern Ace Hardware circa 1960's......a slice in time for sure...

Picture tells a story, they always say? Look at the happy faces, the lack of guns, the lack of fear! Kind of says it all. What went wrong? Beautiful, peaceful memories, Bill. Well done. Thanks Rob.

These historical photos are VERY interesting! Those children are adults by now -- wonder what happened to them... Great series!

another teeming capture...it really has a panoramic feel, partly because I'm sure this is what you saw, how so many people crowd into a small space (partly because they see you with your camera & outfit), and partly because you captured such an array of faces & expressions, going all the way to the right, where you caught that child looking troubled. And it's all accompanied by a sea of mostly fascinated & smiling faces. The light from outside seems like the only strong light inside the store too...I know those accordion walls, they open & the place is fully open to the street, it's very Asian. This is more of your photojournalistic seeing, the sense of capturing a wide swath of humanity in a single shot. You don't see this nearly as much in digital work, and it truly does feel like journalism at its best. And it's great to see the soldier inside, drenched from the heat. These are gems Bill, everyone, and in the fullness of old B&W and on film to boot. Boy am I grateful to see these...

It is so interesting to see a different culture and a different time. I am enjoying this series and the story you put with it.

amazing!

The little boy in the dark shirt rivets my attention and, for me, makes the shot very personal. You and he seem to have connected through the camera, and it gives the scene a sense of immediacy. He would be just about my age ... it reinforces in me the idea that all around the world, we're all the same despite our cultural differences. I hope you'll forgive me, because I know you'll be embarassed ... but these shots of yours belong in the pages of LIFE ... this is an absolutely stunning series.
