Description

This building in downtown Seattle (5th & Pike) was originally the Coliseum Theater. It opened in 1915 in the days of silent movies, and featured a Wurlitzer organ. You can read more about the building and its history (and see a whole bunch of wonderful photographs!) here if you're interested. It's now a clothing store. Ah well ...

always great to come back to your gallery after an absence, tara (like you, I've been swamped with work)...this is another sensitive architectural shot, capturing the sweep & quiet monumentality of these old theaters. (Quiet because they really weren't that large, they just seemed that way...) I like the B&W with lots of grays, and the asymmetrical sweep. And your hues allows the trees to appear like sinews...The "Banana Republic" sign is great: a totally different world from the building, but that's life. And I actually played a Wurlitzer—it was like being a kid on a saturday afternoon or like being in a big carnival. Lovely architectural capture once more...

Right! For a second, I thought banana republic was a comment on the state of the Union. LOL. Great shot of a wonderful building.
