Description

This can't be the same one as last year? He's busy chomping through everything. Anybody know exactly what he is? He's about 10cms long and he flies like a spitfire.

Not an expert, but it looks like a form of Locust, but they are usually in a swarm, maybe a rougue?..and yes chomping thru everything is a locusts plan in life:)...Neat capture!

Great capture. Like PD154 says, locusts keep eating. Check the first pic in Wikipedia under "locust," looks like the female. Lucky you.

Yep, he's a Locust, like in the Biblical plague. Great shot of him!

Yeah, it does look like a locust, Rozanne. Nice macro. It must have been blown a long way, or released by mistake from someone's terrarium, or school biology project. MMmmmm... Warm regards, from a sunny, but chilly Glasgow, John.

yeah, I know who he is: He's a friend and he owes me 5 frickin' bucks. (Ok, stupid joke.) I have no idea what he is, but it's a vivid and teeming shot of branches, leaves, lines, leaning verticals, and some fine saturated reds. As for the insect, most people seem to think he's a locust. You want another suggestion? A really small bear. No? (A large ameba. Ok not funny...) I love the shot & the rhythms, and the insect sits there so entrenched, it's almost conceivable he's been there all winter. A very vivid shot, I really like it.
