My corporeal form lives with my wonderful wife and six eccentric cats in beautiful Sedgefield, but my dreaming body is frequently elsewhere, exploring the fractal universe and marveling at nature's chaos. I love traveling to places that exist only as mathematical constructs on my computer and bringing back snapshots that sometimes remind me of the real world (whatever that means), sometimes of metamagical worlds we can visit only in our imaginations. I trained as a biologist and run a small company specialising in science publishing - writing, editing, illustrating and typesetting. For 3D world building I use Vue, Daz Studio and Poser, but I've also used Bryce since version 2 and done some work with Terragen, Carrara and Groboto. For technical illustration I use mainly Illustrator and Photoshop.
Thanks for visiting my little corner of Renderosity, and to everyone who has kindly commented on my images or added my works as a favourite, thank you for that too. Craig.

I wondered about the name until I clearly saw the trees and then, yes, that is just so great. It is a perfect landscape for these magestic beasts. Lighting is just perfect; storms are not all that common where they live but when they occur they can be wicked, as you here show.

I'm just walking back into your gallery, not because your current work isn't equally compelling (it is!), but because I just wanted to start seeing all that you've posted in the last almost-2 years. You started posting a week or so after I came here (though I didn't post till 3 months later...I commented a while first). This is beautiful, and has a wide deep sweep to it. I know that Vue allows for many things, but this kind of sweep & plunge simply has to come from inside the artist. The landscape heaves and flies upwards, and has harsh lines & rounded lines; and for all its bleak hues & textures, it has a primal force and early morning beauty that feels like life is about to come out of it. (Maybe it's those characters hidden inside it, which we haven't seen yet, in this image at least...) You have a strong separation between peaks and clouds, where a kind of light-under-the- 'ceiling' dwells & casts diffuse rays that cut across the mountains. And then the clouds loom like mountains in the sky, and you have that heavy dark band atop, as if the sky were doing its own ground & sky thing (parallel to the ground's). And the clouds' billows have a tactile feel to them, as if they were solid as well. I can see you put a lot of thought into this. Sweeping, complex, plunging and powerful, and beautiful as well. I wonder if, as a scientist, you bring your overview into play as you make these visions; or if it's wholly an intuitive affair. (It's probably a melange of all those forces.) Happy New Year Craig, and I wish you great illumination in 2010, for you and all your loved ones. This is a beautiful image, I'm glad I found it.
