Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

You did it! Photo first...words second. Bet your words came quick and almost easily. That's the way your poem reads...just like you are reporting on something that just really happened. Reading this is experiencing it. Outstanding.

Old soldiers never die, they just fade away... (General Douglas MacArthur) Love the haunting image of the moon, Maz. And more cathartic prose from your active mind.

so Bill said that you started with the photo...so you let the photo inspire the poem? If so, kudos. It's very hard for many writers, I barely can do it myself. It's really sensitively done. And your poem, in all its concision, has real formal music, the way you made the two main stanzas, the 'hear it/feel it' and 'feel it/know it' in the second, very nicely done. You know, these little moments, these little alightings, they come & go but are permanent inside us. Maybe the soul was giving you a pre-waking gift, and you took it with you the rest of your day. So you leave it behind, but it doesn't leave you. Beautiful little gemstone. And nice angelic vision of the dark in your photo...
