Description
In the spring of 1944, VMO-4 was attached to the 4th Marine Div. at Camp Maui (R&R/training camp in Hawaii). The OY-1 nicknamed "The Last Straw" is shown practicing a short takeoff on the camp airstrip/parade grounds. Camp landmark "Giggle Hill" (Kauhikoa) is seen in the background.
The squadron saw action in the Saipan-Tinian and Iwo Jima operations. They participated in the Brodie device experiments aboard LST-776 at Iwo Jima.

Bit of a weird angle for that scene. Try some sort of sky object maybe?
Becco_UK
Generally nice but I think the scene lighting needs some attention - the underside surfaces of the aircraft look overlit. Perhaps a suitable ground plane underneath the aircraft would help or better still a nice hdri to surround the scene?

turner: Do you mean the camera angle or the angle (pitch/roll) of the aircraft? Becco_UK: Thanks for the suggestion. Have modified the lighting to include a sphere with a mostly sky HDRI and a ground disk colored about the same as the grass in my BG photo in a cyclorama. The radiosity render is shown below. The original top image had a "flash" attached to the camera which accounted for the overlit underside.
