The petals remind me of red sails and that reminds me of a song everybody and their brother recorded in the 50s and 60s, "Red Sails In the Sunset". Remember hearing the lyrics, {Red sails in the sunset, way out on the sea} Oh, carry my loved one home safely to me {She sailed at the dawning, all day I've been blue} Red sails in the sunset, I'm trusting in you

It looks like it should have dramatic music ala 2001: A Space Odyssey while it opens... the dawning of a new tulip! In-your-face red, lovely!

I love the way my eye follows that yellow edge all the way down. Beautiful!

Overwhelming display of color in this super macro shot, Marilyn. The shape of the flower reminds me of the shields the Zulu warriors in Africa used during battle back in the late 19th century. And, speaking of original titles, I believe if you go way back in my gallery, you'll find virtually the same title used in one of my tulip photos.

zowie! My first visit to your gallery in a week, and—shazamm!!!! This is direct photography. It shouldn't be "tiptoe thru the tulip," it should be "Now that's a TULIP, ladies & gentlemen!" Wonderful luminous shot, filled with inner glow, and the yellow edges are like someone's living inside there. And, full-size, the detail on the petal is filled with subtle color variations. A Zen master wrote the poem: "Leap—splash: A frog!" Well replace it with 'tulip' and you'll have a Zen awakening. Love it. A definite fav.
