Description
There are two main canals that run through the heart of the Alleppey town which once connected the sea and the Back waters. These were once very busy with transporting goods to and from the Port.It is these canals that gave her the name 'Venice of the East'. When a new port came at Cochin ( 65km from here) with many advantages such as railaway and airport nearby, her fame grew and she became to known as 'Queen of the Arabian Sea'. She eventually strangled 'Venice of the East' almost to death. Now her hope is on a new cream 'tourism' for a rejuvenation.
My house is nearby this canal about 1km ahead from this place.

A lovely shot, I spent an enjoyable time in Kerala in 1980! I actually stayed in Allepey before heading further south then up north. That trip took me 8 months! My first trip away from home and it was an excellent adventure. I kept going back for more :)
