Description

This church stood along the highway that leads from Puerto Varas to Ensenada on Lago Llanquihue, Los Lagos District, Chile. This region was settled by German colonists in the mid-19th century. The countryside is dotted with neat fields, lush pastures, and occasional orchards. There were several German type restaurants along the way advertising 'Kuchen' (cake). The hillsides were covered with mid-latitude rain forest. The climate in this part of Chile is similar to that of Washington State around Seattle and Puget Sound and Canada's Vancouver Island This picture was taken on 26 December 2003.
