Description

If birds of a feather flock together, what about this colorful pigeon? Watercolor painting, approx 13x20". Painted on 140lb Arches paper using Winsor Newton paints. Branches inspired by an image posted my mss for the metamorphosis thread in the 2d forum, thanks Molly. PS - I dont like pigeons, but this one was inspired by a persistent one that kept 'posing' for me till I took a photo, and now painted it

Well, I love pigeons. :-) I'm not sure why, but your pigeon seems a bit evil. And I can't help thinking that all the other birds are afraid of it, they seem aprehensive. And because their details and colors are not visible, whereas the main one is, it seems as if the main one overshadows the other ones. The composition looks great, really like the background. The pigeon colors look great too. Very good work!

Your pigeon is a beauty and the eyes are very clever.(I like pigeons. Here, we take children to the garden to give bread and corn to them and it´s nice to see when they arrive in group.) The colours in your bird are fabulous and it´s "you".I like the contrast you did with background.Very good work.

Beautiful colors you found in the pigeon! I love the diagonals crisscrossing the background and the trees so much warmer than mine! The birds distributed throughout add so much life to the scene!

This is a really beautiful watercolor. I think you have created a very special pigeon with the rainbow of colors. He must be a magic pigeon. You do really wonderful work, ArtPearl.

i don't feel like the pigeon is hostile at all. i think you've transformed it by taking its most beautiful aspect (the iridescence of its feathers), and making it more prominent. your treatment also makes the image more artistically interpretive, which i'm sure competitions like. i think the bird silhouettes are somewhat ominous, but the almost magically colorful central bird counteracts that feeling. i like how loose and expressive the background looks. thanks for sharing with us!

Wonderful work. I really love the pigeon's eye, the ominous blue pigeons on the jumbled buildings, and the sky. You're really on a watercolor roll recently. (I also really liked the seabird painting.)

I'm sorry I didn't get here earlier, I have been away from the Forum for some time; but I saw you'd posted in the April Metamorphosis, so I came. Your watercolor is splendid. The concept feels almost medieval to me, in the sense of a folktale image, something from folklore, something enchanted. ("Folklike" is a high compliment from me...) The tower where the birds rest feels like a place out of literature or folklore, and the birds on the tree also have a folk-like feel to me. Then, the pigeon itself is a cornucopia of many hues: You've created a tapestry of melding & contrasting colors, shapes & highlights; some by themselves, some with outline...it's a wonderful place to rest & wander. Truly, this is one of the best bird portraits I've seen in a while. And your emulation of Molly's metamorphosis is both close to her work as well as very fitting for the image. I'm sorry I missed this in the forum, but finding it has brought me to your gallery, and from what I can see you are a very fine painter. I like the lighter towers on the right side too, and the sky or mountain lines in the background. Fine work, fine imagination, and a fine interpretation of the Metamorphosis theme. I'll be back here again...
