Description

Mirrors You tell me I am amazing Fascinating You don't know What I see in you Why I am your friend Because you Are so boring Yet you realize We are mirrors Each for the other When I tell you I love your Compassion Warmth Good heart You remind me You are only A mirror That I too Am all those things Some qualities You admire in me Are traits You already see In yourself A starting point For friendship But there are things You recognize That are mine alone And not a part of you My friend, I will Polish the mirror So you can Clearly see There are qualities You embody That I do not possess Qualities I have In abundance With which you struggle But the fact That we are friends That we chose each other Over everyone else In the world Means We are open To learning What the other has To teach Slowly I begin to see Strengths in myself I never saw before You discover Hidden depths In yourself Where before There was only A hint A promise We both Polish our mirrors Each for the other So that we might see Ourselves More clearly We smile Liking what we see In each other's Reflection .......... What a wonderful commentary on qualities of friendship. Must say I never quite thought of it that way before. But on reflecting, the analogy is right on the money. The words you use are both kind and comfortable. And that's probably what makes a relationship into a friendship in the first place. Well thought out, well spoken.

The truth of this is so powerful, so beautiful, for so many reasons--as Kahlil Gibran said, "Your friend is your needs answered".

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone, I can see all obstacles in my way, Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind, It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright) Sun-Shiny day. Poignant prose and neat image, that we can all reflect on.

poignant & beautiful, and written in your usual groups of feelings & thoughts, with each stanza. I think underneath the desire to please there can be great love, and all friends can potentially find it. Maybe projection isn't just projecting our negatives on others, maybe it's projecting our positives too, as you suggest here. But maybe, as you suggest, we find our positives under the protection of a larger love which allows us the space to see ourselves as well as seeing others. A great teacher of mine (a teacher of spirit) leaned across a table many years back, and said, "give me your eyes"—by which he meant 'open yourself to receive my love and allow yours to pour out'. He was in his 80s & had been through war, prison camps, the Gulags, etc. And he said, "it takes a long time to be wholly open in a single gaze, hug or kiss, but work towards it, and you'll find it with a few and it will be glorious..." Maybe that's what you're celebrating, something beyond the dance we do and the ways we try to connect: The deeper connection is waiting, quietly. A beautiful poem, and done in simple language & breaths. And a caring tribute to the friendship that lies underneath friendship.

Sincere, thought-provoking and so true... but you definitely see beyond the reflections to the hidden depths.
