Description

When I was on Lopez Island last weekend, I saw this face. I promise ... it was really there! I didn't paint or postwork this image, except to do a very slight color pop to separate the face from the surrounding greenery. On the way back up to the truck, I showed it to my friends, and they asked if I would write a poem about it. So here you have it ... .......... The Watcher in the Woods While walking in the woods The other day I came upon a face I stopped, we stared I gazed upon him there Delighted, charmed With him all mossy And implacable The things he must have seen As seasons change Young lovers strolling In the springtime rain The creatures of the woods About their lives With darkness as his rest When all are gone My camera out I snapped and clicked and shot While thinking of my friends Who want to see This face this silent Watcher in the woods This Lopez Island Denizen of peace

Quite an imposing presence, with ferns galore! And, of course, a title worthy of a horror movie. Stellar mossy colors and lighting effects make this a superlative composition.

The more I look, the more features I see, a real combination of animal building blocks thrown together.
