the black material is cinders from the volcano that erupted around 1064AD . the landscape here is so surreal

Terrific shot Richard! Great interest in the new life growing there. It was most interesting when Mt St Helens blew and all that black ash settled over everything and then all the beautiful glass things that were made from it!
