Description
Some months back, I stumbled upon a black & white drawing: It was huge, the strokes thundered-then whispered, felt more like heart-strokes than watercolors, they exuded passion & delicacy, fire yet exquisite softness, and a simplicity that says more with a few strokes than I'd often say in a painting... I thought, my god what a heart & eye! Fire, I thought, this is fire...that was my intro to Ana. Ana--aka, anaber (gallery here)--is just plain dear to those of us who know her. She does provocative Bryce & Vue work, wonderful photography (where birds, trees--anything--take over the shot like a movement from a Beethoven symphony); but above all she paints & draws: With lines & strokes made of lightning & soul, she sears into her works with whatever media suits her, to make them sing, whisper, shout & caress as if they burned from her solar plexus. Ana: I reworked this diptych all kinds of times because I wanted to capture qualities in you. You comment from the bottom of your heart, you care for us like we were your family, and you're dear to us, you're really dear, to all of us who know & love you. I learn from your art each time I visit; but above all I learn from your heart. Você está cheio com o espírito dos anjos, you are filled with the spirit of angels; and your friendship--like your art--is precious to all. Thank you--obrigada, alma maravilhosa--for being such a wonderful soul...

Mark this is such a splendid dedi to your dear friend and I must admit now I will have to go check out her gallery as you made it sound like a magnificent journey. This image is so great Mark and just as you pointed out she comments from the bottom of her heart it is easy to see that the inspiration for this came from yours. Well done my friend

very fine image, mark.

The top image is filled with all sorts of sub-images. There's at least one winking face, lots of folding, rolling, smart matter, colorful and bright things. While the image below is a burst of spring. Together, your images match your words to a "T". And I've just now popped over and visited Ana's gallery for a short stay...will go back and spend more time. What a treat.

These are very cool Mark. Your vertical works are such an interesting experiment; well done. Yeah, I always love to see what Ana has said after I post - thoughtful, genuine observations, just like her art. Cheers Ana!

"Your painting is a GREAT PARTY of colours...an emotional dancing of shapes and textures in the midst of a stunning luminosity: IT´S ALIVE." Ana said it perfectly--this is alive, it's full of life and color and yes, it DANCES!! Your work just gets better and better, it jumps off the page into my face, and makes me smile and sometimes laugh out loud.

It is such a beautiful image that it makes my heart long for some unknown splendor. You are truely an artist, one who I look up to and hope to become like someday. The colors are amazing and well blended together. You named it correctly. There is definately a beautiful soul shining through.

I once wrote something long ago, and used a metaphor about a chalice, brimmingly full, pregnant, and overflowing. Those words instantly came to mind when I opened this image, and read your words. Ana must have exactly this sort of soul...a chalice absolutely overflowing..sweet depths of light that run cavernously deep, not a shadow in sight. Mark, this top image! It gushes from the screen! It couldn't be restrained if you tried! What a sensuous piece. The two together make me feel almost as if I'm intruding...voyeuristically watching her soul literally go through the entire birthing process...her creations coming into being, each then growing, until they flower and thrive. You manage the most wonderful dedications..particularly because you pay such close attention to all the nuances within others...then utilizing the energy you find, to create. It speaks, loudly, to an incredibly well-honed gift of innate sensitivity. Each of your beautiful creations..always, always does. Another mind-warpingly, deeply feeling work from you.

This is a gorgeous piece--an outstanding composition. I'm particularly taken by the play of colors and textures here, and how I'm reminded of so many different things simultaneously. I see flowstone, as if you've been spelunking in some undiscovered cave, and I see stalactites as well, but the colors themselves recall some form of deep sea life--or the inner workings of an exquisite shell. I love that element in this piece of work; there's an incredibly rich array of natural shapes here, natural forms, all playing with and around each other in the most intriguing ways. Needless to say, this is a favorite of mine.

Stunning!
