Description
The reason this wall intimidates me some is, it measures 40" tall by 10" wide ... thats 400 square inches of painting area , minus some for the shield.
So I decided to paint it like a rich man.....;)
Allow me to explain: I come from humble beginnings ,the oldest of 9 brothers and sisters and as you can imagine, money was tight. So when I could afford paints I used them sparingly, and it largely influenced my painting style !!
A while back I saw some paintings that were rich in color and powerfully thick brushstrokes... Upon seeing his work I blurted out, He paints like a rich man .... I've never forgotten it !
Anyway I paint this area as a rich man would with very little painting medium and thick and sweeping brushstrokes and I don't clean the brush just kept adding color and moving it around.
Then came back ino it adding cracks etc. this is all done wet into wet ( this was done very agressivelly an expression of my mood, i think)
I can now see some texture and things that can be pushed and pulled later.
The size of this wall was deliberate, as it's 1/3 of the canvas the lead actor another third and the three soldiers another third... if you study this piece you'll dicover that there's a repition of 3s in this work .
Thanks for watching and following this , alltho it' probably getting boring by now .... You are all greatly apreciated by me ... THANK YOU!!
tom
p.s. not all compositions will work in 3s but when I layed this out I discovered this one would. In a way I've placed you folks in my position ..... Like me, you'll never get a first impression of the finished work

i wonder if there is a way that paint can be reconstituted if you find something you wanna change rather than paint over it ?

Continues to fascinate... I never thought about the fact that the artist misses the impact of seeing the painting for the first time. Do you think you've missed anything?

You wall texture is really great. I can almost feel it. Thanks for sharing your life experience and how it effect your painting style. That is interesting and I think that is true for all of us in one way or another. The "3's" are all over the place. :)))) Love it!

Bill I don't know if I've missed anything or not , as I usually don't like my work when I'm finished !!! Not even sure why I do this ... It's a bag of mixed blessings.... a love hate relationship!!! tom

It's not boring. It's great to see how you are painting this stage by stage. I see a face in the mountain, is that intentional? Looking forward to the completion!

It is a great gift for the viewer to be allowed to follow an artwork in different stages. Looking forward to the finished paiting!! When i make an image i work so fast and so impulsive that i cannot follow my steps back, a little sad sometimes.I also work in mch smaller scale.

Enjoy yourself Tom!!!...You have earned it.....You can paint like a "rich" man if you want (awesome story by the way), but I think you have always been rich in blessings and talent....And hopefully many other blessings as well. I am never bored of art and the artistic process so you can keep that coming all you want.....Sometimes I feel like the soldier and the "intimidating" wall..everyone here and in my life is my wall when I need someone or something to lean on...you know when things get tough....Laughter and Love Madness and Hate the Great Debate!!!!!! Keep up the fantastic work and as always all my best!!!!!!!!!!!
