Description

(Please zoom!!!)
Years back, I had a friend who made every kind of art imaginable with great brilliance & energy. One day I asked a gallery-owner: "How would you describe my friend?" He said: A big deep forest of art... When I started my dedi to Andrea--aka durleybeachbum (gallery here)--I'd seen her photography & banners (nine banners depicting the "Fruits of the Spirit" for a local church; they're gorgeous). I began my dedi... But THEN she got "Gallery Plus" & started loading: paintings, drawings, doodles, sketches, fungus lamps, sculptures, wild creatures & on and on. After 2 weeks, I screamed: "Aghhhhh! You're killing me! I don't even know where to start!" I thought: 'Ok Andrea. You win. I haven't got an image. I can't approach your drawings or paintings; I can't do one of your lamps; I tried some of your experimental works--making paintings out of ink blotches or blowing inks through straws (!)--or your spot-on caricatures, etc, etc: I tried them all: They were awful. And I decided I'll have to write something instead. This was one image that would never get off the ground...' Then I remembered Her art's a big deep forest & did this triptych. Is it 'you'? No, probably more 'me'... Is it as creative, skillful, broad? Nope. But it's a forest--like the area you live in & share with us each day--and it's turned all kinds of ways: That's an Andrea act. Andrea, your art just makes me dance. Your wonderful photography & banners, your inimitable doodles, lamps, gremlins, paintings, etc, teach me that art isn't only fathomless, but can be done with anything--and it's a joy. Combine that with your unflagging technique, your terrific sense of humor & infectious use of every medium you touch (you'd make the Sistine Chapel out of chewing gum if someone asked, I'm sure), it's a knockout combination. You're one of the most exciting artists to cross my path in eons, and if you ever go to another planet, book me a seat 'cause I'm joining you. You've given us permission to do anything our insides ask, you've taught us a world about technique w/ a lot of humanity; and to paraphrase Mel Brooks, your gallery makes us wanna throw a party for our eyes. Flourish forever, Durley goddess! You're a big deep forest of art & your work is more joyous than you know...
* * * * * * I'm still catching up--one more night! Have a wonderful holiday and thanks for all your visits & support. Much peace! Mark Note: This uses mss's wonderful image for the 2D Forum Metamorphosis series, here. (All Photoshop.)

What a marvelous dedication to your friend and fellow artist. The title is wonderful. Not only is this a gorgeous work of art, you have a gift for writing. I always delight in reading your comments at the galleries. I can see music in your images, and also hear it in your words. Thanks for suggesting another fantastic gallery to explore.

OMG! These 3 are the best of their kind, you have ever done Mark. I am sure Andrea will be very happy in double sence, because of your so true words also, which I do so agree with. I SO admire Andreas multi talent and creativity. I just adore these all 3 images.

Great...love all three images...particularly the third one as it turned my photochromic lenses dark. Somehow, your sun must be emitting UV rays. Your words about Andrea's art are not in the least overstated. What a talent she is...but thanks to you...we're all even a little better!

I really like that branches have been used in a dedi to Andrea. I have already, in the short time I've been at RR, learned much and received much pleasure by following her gallery.Of course you have verbalized her strengths perfectly. "A big deep forest of art..." Very nice concept. I'm proud that the branches could help portray it.

Well, Mark, I'm overwhelmed by your kindness and your amazing words. I read this and can hardly believe it's about me, and for me. Gosh! The images are just PERFECT! and like Denise I would be thrilled to have these floor to ceiling filling the walls! Your talent for words and pictures are equal and unsurpassed in my experience, and so many others here know what a privilege and thrill it is to be the recipient of either or both of them! I shall go exploring in these forest walks and clearings, I can already see several folk lurking in the top one, waiting to be discovered. Who knows what you have unleashed in me, apart from possibly a swollen ego! I am as you know extremely grateful to you and my other friends here for the encouragement to post 2D in this illustrious company, it's done me a power of good! I don't feel so nervous about it now! Thankyou, Mark, for this BEAUTIFUL gift!

PERFECT Mark: your painting mix all the beauty of nature with all the beautiful colours and luminosity of spring and again a place where we can go throught...and explore!! At the time, profound and very sensitive for a friend that deserves each one of your words above: Andrea is really a great artist that i admire very much in many ways. When she upload, not only shows but sharing all the time with joy and fun and great sense of humor too. We almost can notice her day to day “on line” and that is very beautiful ! We know her friends, her dogs and her neighbors…and also the way things must be done. She does beautiful photos, great macros and the most different kinds of art with really fun and joy, but the most beautiful in her is the preoccupation she has to explain everything she does and above all: always teaching.

Mark all I can say is you have certainly done it again my friend and you never cease to amaze me. After hearing your vivid description of your friend and her art I was blown away and realized what a challenge you took upon yourself to do a dedi for her. Well this idea where you actually brought the perfect description of her art to life is wonderful.

Again, another spectacular concept conjured up by your fertile mind! Stellar effects throughout, but instead of a forest, the top two pieces resemble something you would see from the porthole of a deep sea bathyscaph, an underwater exploratory apparatus capable of reaching a depth of 6.8 miles/11 kilometers.
