Description

Now we are standing right in front of the church with a fine gothic entrance. To the right you see the big granery, a 7 story building unique for the time. I will show this one later on in full size. In front of the granery there is a plan of the monastery and all the surrounding buildings. Belive me it's a huge place...smile Left to the church is the entrance one nowadays uses, through the wide and narrow bow into a small passage leading right into the cloister. Slighty left of this entrance bow you see the well outside, decorated for the eastertime already. The legand says, the founder of the monasterys packed a donkey with a sack full of gold and send him into the woods to find the place where to build the new monastery. The donkey stopped at a well and drank. And so the place was found. Maulbronn bears the name from this legend, because "maul" is the word for an animals mouth or the firt syllable for a mule (Maultier) and "bronn" ist the old german word for "brunnen" meaning a well. This shot came out slightly different than intended because I did not realize I had accidental changed the settings. I kept it anyway, as it has a wonderful wayback feeling.
