Description

Captured 2/10/09, around early afternoon, about .75 miles/1.207 kilometers from my recidivist residence. Surely I must have better things to do in my life than take twenty-one photos of the same wooden fence, but these knotty pine textures on relatively fresh looking wood were too seductive to pass up. Infinitely better viewed full size. Adding to the textures in some of the pics are long broad streaks of effluvium from rusted nails. I wonder if the wood was treated in any way. It looked kind of raw and unprotected out there exposed to the ever changing climate and environment. In any case, presented here are the first four shots in still another one of my series on all kinds of stuff, irrelevant or not. I know Denise and Tunde, among others, should enjoy this one immensely. Thankx for clicking on, and may this turn out to be a most memorable Monday for you all.

Each one worthy of an abstract in its own right! Lovely textures and interesting shapes Harry!

I've always been fascinated by knotholes in wood; there are infinite designs that the layers take, and the colors are like a present. This is really illustrated well in the bottom shot! I can easily understand why you'd take 21 shots of the same fence, I'd probably do the same! Wonderful series of shots!!

I see faces around most of the knots. My favorite is the tight lipped pig in the fouth photo. It is a shot that is turned 90 degrees clockwise...snout and mouth...just no eyes:-)

Very nice, Harry! That fence has a lot of character with all the knots and stains from the nails!

Only 21 fotos of the fence--you who took a gazillion car shots--you barely scratched the surface!! Nice detail!!

I love the comments, and Bill's gonna have to explain, because I looked at that bottom photo several times, and even with his apt specifics, I can't see the pig. But these are wonderful with or without the pigs, and from the top shot it strikes us that you really got this from some very pedestrian lumber: Yet close up there's a lot to see. I love the nails not only for their weeping lines, but for their actual presence in the wood. #3 has a Philip's screw which is actually fun; and that big green chunk in #2—kind of the equivalent of using duct tape to hold a chair together. And the bottom one is definitely the most beautiful. You do this, you capture something common, and have everyone looking all over it for all that's in it. You're an abstract artist of your own kind. A fine capture & lots of fun too...
