Description

Gardiner's Mill built in 1804. East Hampton, New York. This is one of three fully operational, historic wind mills in East Hampton. There is even a man working on this one (orange ladder). Location is one block from "Home Sweet Home" and St. Luke's pictured here: Click Here Thanks for stopping by. Worth a ZOOM. Bill:) P.S. Added a canvas texture for a different feel from a straight photo.

Interesting that the trees are there! You'd think they'd interfer with the wind flow. A beauty of a postcard!

Can't quite tell what the siding is: Cedar shingles? Interesting to note the tapered spars supporting the sail frames.

Interesting. Looks like some skills brought over from Holland were used here, to make the area so prosperous long after the mills quit working. Excellent photo!

Lovely image and presentation, Bill. This must be fairly unusual in the states.

What a wonderful old Mill I assume this is part of the estate of the Home sweet home, and again a remarkable bit of the Agrarian heritage of the Puritan English forebears.. Would love to visit this place one day..

Great photo Bill. So um those 'blades' would have been filled with a sail cloth of some sort would they?

Lovely picture and a beautiful effect too! Like it! Yes! There's a rarity! Was this used for milling grain? or to power something else.... Rob.

a really fine capture of a beautiful old structure. Your angle gives us a sense of its sweep, and you've done something basic & photogenic: captured the tree line—top right—moving down through the blades & into the ground (just basic old linear composition that's as natural as sunlight). Nice counterpoint with the fences too. In fact, as I recall, you've done really fine work with fences before...Finally, the lighting is really generous. a sunny & shady capture, alternately. A very nice generous capture of a beautiful structure, caught on just the right day.

Beautiful shadows play in this one and the composition with the fence up front is really nice. Great capture!

Stellar lighting effects and a perfect composition of all items in this pastoral capture, Bill! Everything looks well maintained and in tip-top shape. And, I like the use of the canvas filter in this instance.

Windmills are always facinating and this one looks great with the textured finish. Lovely work.

Great shot, and I LOVE the canvas texture for this. It has to do with the age of the building ... Dutch masters ... etc etc. Wonderful!!

Great FX Bill. We have a near identical windmill just outside Blackpool, but it has become a part of the town as the countryside is swallowed up.
