Description

Hi Friends & Visitors I have just realized that I have not placed any 'civilization' images yet since the start of the Namibia journey! So let me correct that straight away! This is the coastal town of Swakopmund in Namibia. Swakop = name of the river that flows into the ocean here and mund = german for mouth! You can pick up from the few buildings showing on the image that here is a huge German influence - not only in architecture but in all forms of life! You still find traditional German bakeries and they make the most divine German breads and pastries. It is also said that German tourists come to Swakopmund especially to have an Eisbein!!! (pork knuckle) Legend have it that a specific restaurant in Swakopmund makes the best Eisbein in the world!!! The line of trees visible on the image are on the beds of the (dry) Swakop River. You can also see the bridge spanning the river on the right hand side of the image. This is the river that divides the Namib Desert into two distinct parts - south are the 'sand' desert (and you can see the dunes as a backdrop) and north is the 'stone' desert. Thank you for visiting my gallery and for you very valued comments and favs on my last upload! Take care. Hugs, Carin xx

Ach du leiber, Augustine, mein fraulein (or frau, in your case)! This is vunderbar! And with bizarre names that I might find in a Jonathan Swift novel. Bet they have a wild Octoberfest. Ooompahpah! But I digress...a splendid shot of the town, which looks so quaint, neat and tidy, contrasted up against the distant hills. Almost looks like a miniature model.

I sit here in amazement, staring at this photograph! The German buildings against the African desert ... wow. What a view! (I don't have enough Afrikaans to make a meaningful comment. You'll have to settle for: "dis goen te sien")
