Description


With the stolen uniform, documents and credit cards, J.S. forged the forms to get a shuttle and the med-lab and drew a lot of cash. At the astroport he chose a cargo ship rather small and not a bit showy, but very fast and handy for the re-entry and landing. The astrocargo he took had a He-bot as co-pilot. The robot was activated together with the ship by shuffling the security card in front of the proper sensor. The He-bot co-pilots represented the latest sly policy used by main ETHIC agencies and contractors companies working for GUN and the NGOs in order to cut personnel costs and keep increasing the top brass' juicy salaries. Many pilots didn't like having a robot as a fellow- pilot, but J.S. could appreciate the advantages it offered in his line of work. In fact, the He-bot was efficient, obedient, tireless and utterly confidential, since its memory was deleted every time one turned the ship's "key" off. The He-bot supplied with the astro-cargo's equipment had a fleshy "face" that gave him a human look. J.S. would have preferred plastic and metal, but one cannot always choose. The fleshy face was compulsory outside the metropolitan core of the Earthener Alliance, according to the policy enforced by the PIG (Psychic Intergalactic Guild). This most powerful agency had decided that a human-like "face" bolstered the morale. The shrinks, of course, didn't have the least idea of what they were blethering about. I like your Poser illustration for your story. And I love the fact that the robot co-pilot's memory gets erased every time the ship's key gets turned off. Most convenient:)

Lovely storyline, lovely details (like about the He-bot's memory, or the objection people had to it), wonderful detail about its fleshy face, etc. You put in lots of delightful details that we may encounter once and no more, but that's more of your cinematic thinking, because these kinds of things would be essential to a fine movie. And they make for a delightful narrative, amidst the weighty storyline. The image looks like it took real thought: You've given just enough illumination to a dark scene to bring it to life. I'd assume that to be hard. And you have a low pov, as if your mental camera were low to the floor. (If you know film history, you could call this a Gregg Toland angle, because he was the cinematographer for Citizen Kane who was responsible for those ultra low angles looking up at Orson Welles and others, in the newsroom. In fact, Welles literally pounded holes in the floor so Toland could get his camera low enough. You're in good company here!) I like the light on the control panels, surrounded by darkness; the ships & stations out the window; the angle of JS; and all that "underwater" light. Very finely done. And I see that others agree. Your imagery is really creative, Flavia, but that's no surprise considering what you've done in photography and straight (ie, non narrative) imagery. Fine job on a difficult image...
