Description

This dedication is for Ines (mininessie) who is one of the kindest and most gentle ladies in the gallery. She is a dear friend and her gallery is a perfect example of her kind and caring nature. Ines is multi talented and her gallery contains photos, paintings, digital art along with her own creations. It is a great place to visit and I feel safe letting my youngest niece Aschlynn look at it. Ines asked if I would bring a special memory to life for her and told me not to worry about sharing it. After hearing her story I was moved and wanted to be sure and share it with my friends. Mighty Mouse (For Mininessie): When Ines was a very little girl her family lived in the country in a very large house. She loved her Grandfather so much and was very close to him. One day he came home and found Ines outside playing. He nealt down beside her and placed his hand upon the ground. When he moved it Ines saw a little toy mouse with wheels beneath it. She stared at amazement at the precious new toy as he gently placed a string in her hand so she could pull it. Their cat stared on in shock as Ines began to pull her little mouse all around. While this may sound like a simple memory to some it is one of her first and most happy memories that she still cherishes to this day. I just wanted a chance to bring it to life for my dear friend and I am grateful she allowed me to do it. Thanks, Dave

Adorable! I love the expressions. The grandfather is perfect. Wonderful posing and composition. The child's pose expressing wonderment is so accurate all the way down to the toes. I like how you involve all the characters--even the toy mouse has a personality. You are so gifted at bringing these anecdotes to life. You're a talented storyteller and illustrator. Keep up the great work.

I see I didn't comment on two of your pieces: I'll do one now, and the other on my next visit. (I like to spend special time with your pieces because of the time & care you put into them.) As for the miracle of such a small moment, it is a miracle even though it seems 'small' to our eyes today—having iPhones at our disposal—because discovery is still the same, ie, the wonder and love that comes with it. Ines' face is all surprise & joy, yet you got some shadow in her face too, which is how children are, they're mixes of light and reflection and they have shadow right alongside their light. And her dress shines, as if its budding with joy at the new gift; and I love the wrinkles in the dress and those great shoes. (They're terrific!) And of course you got the details right, the legs of a child, pudgy and child-like, and the posture too, one foot up as if ready to jump in joy. And the mouse looks real! It looks totally real! I love that. And the curve of the leash and the mouse's tail are in harmony. You also have harmony in the wall-corners and the tilt of Ines and her grandfather—the piece is in visual harmony in many places. And her grandfather is rendered to loom over her & us, but with warmth and love, as a grandfather does at that age. He seems totally happy & even wears suspenders from that time! And you got the knealing really well, Dave, not easy to do. Overall, it has the patina of memory; it's warm and enchanted; and I like the cat looking on wondering what it should do. (And red wheels on the mouse! A great touch!) Another of your special & magical portraits of childhood, and it's very touching too. I've been in Ines' gallery and liked everything I've seen, I just haven't been online enough to follow up, but I will in the future. Beautiful once again, dave, but that's no surprise to anyone who knows your gallery. I'll comment on the newest work soon...you know how I feel about your father being back. I hope this comment finds you well!

I wonder if you realize how talented you are? Every image I open brings back memories for me:-) This one because my grandfather was so special. He was a water well driller, at the end of the day he took the screws and nuts and bolts, scrap metal, springs etc and made whimsey's for all of his grandkids. He never gave them a name because he wanted us to call them what we saw in the shape. The last gift he gave me was more than 40 years ago and the shape was that of a mouse with a golf club. You already know I am a rescuer of animals, sometimes I rescue humans too. He had been placed in a mental ward 300 miles from all family and friends, simply because of dementia and Parkinson's disease. I spent almost 2 years arguing with my grandmother about bringing him home, not to let him die in that ugly place where no one ever visited him. Finally she gave in and he was brought to a local rest home where the family could visit. I was there the day the ambulance brought him in, he didn't recognize me but there were tears in his eyes and he whispered 'home'. I cried for days because he had been so mistreated in that place and it was still evident in the bruises on his body and I cried because I knew that he knew he was home and could pass with some dignity restored. Thank you for this, its so good to remember! I love the kitty in the background watching that mouse, the look of wonder on her face and this beautiful image and story!

Once again I go from your image to an image for you, this time from Ines. This does not surprise me here, for your friends are returning the caring that you have so richly shown them. This is an excellent image, full of loving and joy! Wonderful expressions and poses. Ines' face is filled with the surprised delight of that instant of discovery. Her finger unconsciously pointing to her new wonderful toy. The grandfather's expression and pose is full of gentle and protective love. Beautiful posing of his hands. I see the left hand as having been over the mouse and still being slightly cupped, while the right hand reached down to lift the string and keep a light touch on it until she had a firm hold. There is a slight smile on his face as he gets equal enjoyment as she, by her response. I love the cat! I think it wants a mouse of its own. Beautiful story! Simple moments and connections fill our lives with meaning.

Beautiful image, much more than just a memory! Joyful expression of the child who looks at his little mouse with great satisfaction, the grandfather who gives her the edge to guide the cat and looking carefully. A beautiful scene that comes to life by your words! Congratulations, my dear friend, for your sensitivity and ability to live your images!
