Description

Like Andrea said yesterday - it's Bombylius major. Those specimen lay there eggs near the clutch of eggs of katydids or grasshoppers. Their larvae live parasitic on solitary bees or sometimes grasshoppers/katydids. On the German Wikipedia-Site could you find more informations about them. My English is not good enough to translate the whole article. ;-) This shot, in my humble opinion, shows a female Bee Fly laying her eggs on the ground. She fluttered all the time with her two wings and the abdomen is touching the ground very fast. On the other pics she or he was sitting without fluttering. Hope you understand my "weird" language - have all a great day and stay tuned. Please zoom for the details.

I still cannot get over the macro capabilities of your lens- its a zoom that can focus really really close- very good glass! You got a great macro sneaking up on this guy- probably had to really inch your way up!
