Description
Captured on film October 1989, at Fisherman's Wharf in beautiful San Francisco, California.
Second in a triptych series on this naval craft.
To avoid disorientation, the top shot is looking aft starboard side, the second photo shows the aft end of the conning tower from the starboard side, and the third shot depicts the front end of the conning tower from the port side. The fourth picture is of the front deck cannon looking up, under and aft. The fifth photo is looking aft past the conning tower from the port side.
USS Pampanito (SS-383), a Balao-class submarine, was a United States Navy boat, the only one named for a variety of the pompano fish (see gafftopsail pompano). She completed six war patrols from 1944 to 1945 and served as a Naval Reserve Training ship from 1960 to 1971. She is now a National Historic Landmark, preserved as a memorial and museum ship in the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association located at Fisherman's Wharf.

Awesome, someone posted a picture of the USS Ronald Reagan earlier today. They sure are fascinating to see and tour if you get the chance.

Loud applause for your five framed collage. The Pampanito shows off the best of our sub technology at the end of WWII. You really stopped me with "tourbillion"! Had to go read up on that hi-tech invention. Cool word to compliment your photogarphy today.

Holly cow! What a collection you have Harry. 4th shot is way too cool and a 5th with the "friends" in a far back is an excelent capture.

This is now one thing you wouldn't catch me on... Hell no. No diving in metal tins under the oceans for me... it is darn hard enough to get myself into a metal thing to fly the heavens... Nice set of pics though Harry... as always very interesting narrative! :)
