Description
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, there were apple trees in an orchard outide of a castle's walls.
Once upon a time, in a land, far, far away there were kings--though many of us may not remember their names.
He remembers walking--alone and with friends--beneath the gnarled branches of trees older than himself. He remembers the smell of the autumnal air, and the conversations held with friends, fellow travelers, and expatriates like himself. Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, he had been a different person. And he remembers what the air smelled like in that other life. He rembers hearing the language he does not know. He remembers the beer, the clear, fiery brandy, and the golden herbolic elixir, served in frosted shot glasses.
Now, on the Chicago shore of Lake Michigan, he walks with her. Remembering. Longing. Wishing. He says nothing of where he has been, and how he hopes to return there soon. She says nothing of his absence. They simply walk. Together. Silently.

This is yet another quick skirmish post; as I'm without my own computer, it's a lot harder to make posts as I used to, but hopefully soon, I'll be leaving Chicago, and when that happens, I'll be able to do the things I am accustomed to doing. As it stands, quick skirmish posts are all that I can manage.
I should note that the figures in the actual photograph bear no resemblence to the characters in the micro-story, and yet one evokes the other. The tones in this image recall the tones of an earlier post "Shadow of an Apple" which is where the idea for the text came from.

I love this! It really sucks you in. There's something incredibly mesmerizing, hypnotic, and dream-like about it. It has so much texture and resonance, you can almost live in it. I find myself staring at this for a very long time. It also has an X-Files kind of look and feel to it. Extremely cool!
