Description

Today I wanted to upload a photo I had taken of our dog, Bud .. back in 2005. It is one that I did enlarge and have hung on our wall (AS I PROMISED TO BORIS) .. it's a favorite of mine. We got Bud as a pup and was a gift to our son Ben, on his 2nd birthday, in 1996. We were told to put him down by our vet, as his allergies were terrible. I couldn't bring myself to do it. Instead, I took him to another vet, to get a 2nd opinion. I'm so glad I did. We ended up putting him on prednisone, a very low dose, which controlled his allergies so well, so that he was able to live a happy and healthy life. He never was a sick dog, ever!!! AS you can see, he lived a good long life. The last few months, he had several 'accidents' in the house (we never scolded him cuz all his life he never did this!), and the last few days of his life, he simply could not get up on his own. When we helped him up on his 4 feet, he staggered. He was so weak. I had no choice but to put him down.... When I put the dates on this image, the tears fell .. it looks so final. :( But I think this is an essential part of my healing process... uploading this. Thank you for taking the time to visit, and especially if you read this entire thing. I tried being brief, but I guess I needed to say it all. Hugs to all, ShariLyn *********************************************** April's Photography Forum Challenge Accidental Letters!

To lose a dear friend like this is difficult, there are those who may say it’s just a dog, but that dog became a member of the family, a special dear friend, I am so very sorry for your loss Shari, and I know that Bud had many happy years of love and affection from you and the family, know that there is a doggie heaven and Bud is there right now, I hope you take comfort in the memories of Bud, and that this will help to ease the pain, blessings to you from across the pond dear friend...The tears are falling down my face too :(

I lived through this, almost word for word, with our Roscoe and even 2 1/2 years later, it can overwhelm me. He is certainly a beautiful friend and the alertness in this pose radiates intelligence, loyalty, and devotion. My heart is with you and may he always walk by your side.

Ohh Sherri!! I am so sorry to hear this! I had dogs all my life until I lost being able to walk & care for them properly. They were never ours - We were THEIRS. My vet said once that IF she could come BACK for another life - she hoped she'd get to come as one of my Poms... I miss them sorely still. God Bless your broken heart dear friend! I hope the loss & grief you feel sharply now - is replaced with nothing but the happy memories SOON! "BUD" was such a GORGEOUS animal! Hugggzzz - Teri

Oh, yes. Having been the pleased and proud owner of a faithful line of West Highland Terriers going back to 1971, I know (almost) exactly how you feel. I won't go on but hugs to you and yours for the loss of your faithful friend Bud. Wonderful photo.

This is a difficult time. True sorrow and tears will be in force for many days to come. You will always have your Buddy dog in your heart. Keeping the photos on the wall help to bring back smiles as if we were still looking at them directly.

Well of course I read the whole thing and all the comments before mine as well, I can't give you any words to make the pain go away Shari, but a gentle hug to help in the process. We all get attached to our pets and its only right that we grieve for them when their time comes, I'm damn sure he had a good life with you and yours and enjoyed every second he was with you. This is a wonderful tribute to an old friend. Hugs Jeff.

You did the right thing, as you know, and he has had the best of owners. I have had 17 dogs so far, and so have been through this 13 times to date. The best way to heal is to offer a home to another '2nd hand' creature as soon as possible. I phoned the rescue within 2 hours of having Sadie put down. Ralph was very pleased!

A loss can be a very hard thing to go through because something feels empty. But loosing a dear friend also shows that you had a dear friend to start with and how wonderful that is! So many great moments shared together, you changed each other's lives and that is a beautiful gift, one that will stay with you always :)

Oh my, Shari, I am so sorry to read of Bud's loss and yours! Yes, your narrative is nearly word for word for many of us, I've done it twice in two years now with two of mine. I know that you will miss him terribly, but it was the right thing to do, and of course, he will be waiting for you at The Rainbow Bridge, thanking you for the good life that you gave him. God Bless!

A beautiful and fitting dedication to your beloved pet, Sharilyn. One of Gods biggest mistakes was when he gave dogs such a short life span.
