http://texasfred.net/archives/4045 here is a link to a web site and here is another link too http://www.ihatethemedia.com/earth-day-predictions-of-1970-the-reason-you-should-not-believe-earth-day-predictions-of-2009 I missed Earth day so I late and here is why not to believe in what they saying about the earth. All they wish is to control everone and take they money too. They also not liveing what they saying. shame on them. I do belive we need to watch out what we doing like putting mercey into the water. that not good. things like that yes we need to stop and the most part we did stop but now we need to ware that gas mask that someone say we need in 1970 so we can clean up that merecy light bulb that Al Gore is makeing every one to buy. lol Thanks for looking and reading and comments too. oh this is the same hole as was yesterday just tooken at a diff place

great site. I remember all that ice age fear mongering. I was kind of disappointed as a kid that it didn't pan out. Great image too.

Fantastic shot, once again, Jock. Regarding the global warming factor, the Earth has gone thru many cycles throughout its 4 billion years of existence. Warming and cold. Have we contributed to the greenhouse gasses in the past 100 years, most definitely. But, we may just be about to come into contact with one of those normal returning cycles. BTW, global warming is the beginning of a next ice age!!!

Excellent Earth Day image, Jock! Amazing variations of colors. We camped overlooking the Red River Valley, right were it comes into the Rio Grande, in NM this past week. There is an eight mile stretch there, where nothing can grow. Not trout, not insects or even bacteria. We pay for it. Twice. Ten times. The big businesses don't. Ever. MOLYCORP MOLYBDENUM MINE, New Mexico • Current operations began in 1964 as an open pit mine; Molycorp is now mining underground. Over 100 tailings slurry spills into the Red River were documented in a five-year period. • As a result of acid mine drainage and heavy metal contamination leaching from the mine, at least eight miles of the Red River downstream of the mine are biologically dead. This portion of the Red River once was habitat to a blueribbon trout fishery.

Fantastic capture, Jock. Love the motif. That's a most fascinating and very beautiful landscape. There are a lot of motion in this terrain.+5

This is so outstanding... I love the stories in places like this. So much can be learned, so much can be seen... A great place to visit but too dang hot for me! LOL I have to agree with you on the earth day stuff. Evolution of the earth is seen in places like this and we need to remember that no matter what we do, we might only slow it down a bit, but mothe nature will have her way in the end.

Egad, just check out the stratification on the foreground rock and/or slate formations. Terrific DOF in this cool, cool capture, Jock! I don't know about Earth Day, but this resembles a scene from the surface of Mars. Taking fotos looking out the visor of a spacesuit helmet.
