Description

This one took an entire week to finish in XaraXtreme. I had created a background for it but I like it best with this simple one. *** Friday was Brian's and my 26th wedding anniversary. Still amazed that he still loves me so much. No one else but my mother does :) I wanted to do something completely different for our dinner and decided to try sushi and sake for the first time. Victoria, next door, and Mai (from china) both said I would love it. Let me tell you right now that I will never, ever eat sushi again. After 4 pieces I felt nauseous to my stomach just looking at it. Now, I knew that I might not like it but I thought that you could get sushi without raw fish (which is sashimi). All my sushi was raw except for the cooked eel (gag...yes, I tried it) and the crab filling in the caterpillar roll. I love wakami seaweed so I thought I'd like the Nori in the caterpillar rolls but it was so fishy tasting (gag again). I suppose it doesn't help that I'm food sensitive to tuna and iodine and not suppose to eat any fish at all (because I was never tested for any others). And the wasabi...eek. Just the tiniest bit was enough to set your mouth on fire. And the pickled ginger...argh! I put an entire piece in my mouth and tried my darndest to chew and swallow it. I had to remove it to my plate. The sake was excellent but we got Kome Kome (think that was what it was called). Much like a Riesling. I expected sake to be like a whiskey. I make miso soup at home so I thought I'd like their miso soup. Ummm...not. It tasted fishy. What with all the fish??? But this is how I am. I want to try different things before I leave this Earth. I had escargo a few years back, even though the thought of eating a crawling, sandy, mucus membrane turns me off. It was good but I won't ever have it again. I still need to try an oyster someday....maybe, lol. *** I want to say thank you to all the wonderful friends I have here that I feel so fondly of. You've made me feel like a part of this community and always made me feel welcomed. Thank you. I am working many more hours this summer. I will not be here very much...less than I already am. I will not have the time to view people's work or comment. You can remove me from your favorite list...I understand. I just want everyone to know that I did and do appreciate everyone of you that has touched my life. Group hug! Nancy

Congratulations on your 26th, that is so great that your marriage is doing so well. I've been married for 17 years now, love is a very potent force that can overcome most obstacles if you let it. Too bad you had such a bad experience with the sushi. I've had sushi many times. I know what you mean about wasabi though - very powerful stuff. Good for when you have a cold though. I love your rendering. look very natural. Well worth the effort.

Congrats on 26 years! It's funny, I love sushi and all that slimy stuff covered in wasabi and my husband can't stand any of it. lol At least you gave it a try. As for your image. It's absolutely beautiful and an instant fav! Don't worry about commenting. Drop by when you can. You'll be in my thoughts while you're working your fingers to the bone. Hugs, Holly

Oysters are WONDERFUL, but they are an acquired taste, I suppose. Happy Anni to you both! We just had our second and it was very nice. We've never been so happy as in these last two years. Okay, we lived together for a year and that was wonderful too. :^) Sorry about your dinner but hey, you tried something new and my hat's off to you for that. Here's to 26 more! The flowers here are quite beautiful - great job.

Beautiful image Nancy! I am so sorry about your Sushi.. I tried it once and some I liked, but some was a no no. When I was very young I made my first curry.. Thought a clove og garlic was a bulb!! I had the thinnest blood ever and the house still smelled of that curry a month later! lol..

This is such a beautiful image Nancy and a great way to start my day considering it is pouring rain here now. I loved reading about your experience with sushi and all the rest. Please be more careful though considering your allergies as my secretary has the same and they can be dangerous. Finally when your ready let me know as I know some great Indonesian recipe's you need to try ;)By the way huge congratulations on your Wedding Anniversary.

The flowers are exquisite - such delicate gradations of colour and light. My mother, Iris, was a florist and was always painting flowers - her style was very similar to your painting, but in traditional media - watercolour, acrylic, coloured pencil. Congrats on your 26th - we just celebrated our 25th. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the sushi - it's one of my favourite meals. Good on ya for giving it a try...

Beautiful work on this - stunning that you get such life out of vector graphics! First time I had wasbi was the Korean version, put a whole spoon full in my mouth, somehow managed to keep from fainting and face out of the plate, good first impression with my date [not the wife so she must find me amusing]; congrats on the milestone! Cheers. Tim
