Description

Grief So many dead My past Is littered with those No longer here So much loss Old friends Fallen by the wayside For good or ill There's a difference Between dead And gone But it isn't a very big one There is a certain Beauty In grief Having seen The depths Of my own soul I've gained perspective Compassion And a willingness To speak the truth There are those Who are uncomfortable With the idea of death Of loss Grief They will tell you Not to grieve too long That your loved one Is in a better place What they mean is That your emotion Frightens them Makes them look At things They would rather not see Brings them too close To the ragged edge Where reality reigns And control Is only a theory I have learned To embrace grief Integrating its lessons Weaving it into The fabric of my life So if you see me sigh From time to time I hope you will also notice That my life is full of joy And that I still dance .......... This poem was inspired by a conversation I've been having with Mark (anahata.c) about loss and grief. It's dedicated to those of you who understand my words by way of experience. .......... I am much the same as you Tara, but you put into words what I feel inside, I still grieve for my mother and father, my father died when I was 12 years old, my mother when I was 35. Other relatives and friends are always in my thoughts, and I know just where those sighs come from. Superb prose. Bravo!!!!!

Thank you for putting into words how I feel, I've struggled greatly to try and make those around me understand, since the loss of my two brothers, and more recently my father. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, you are a godsend!!

Good Grief. You've written sagely and well. Not a light subject and one that we all handle differently. I know you're talking people here but I couldn't help but think of Shari's loss of their family pet, Bud, this past week. A big part of handling grief is having friends and loved ones to go through the process with you. But in the end, no matter what your outlook on the hereafter, there comes a time to move on. By your own words, you've found a way to do just that. And that's a good witness to all of us. Nicely done!

Incredibly true. Beautiful words in that they encapsulate the most profound lesson that death teaches us. All things pass, and that is what makes them worth experiencing. Death, after all, is as much a part of life as birth, which is why I tend to call death by its name; to do less is disrespect. Life and Death are partners in a dance, and well...it's a poor dancer who cannot embrace this truth. This is fantastically done. It also reminds me of a quote from the movie Gladiator: "Death smiles at us all; the least a man can do is smile back." Beautifully done!
