Description

Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, April 25, 2009. P-51 at near 400 mph just 40 feet off the deck. I was thrilled at the shots I was able to capture using a 70-300mm lens hand-held. I was shooting on a bright cloudless day with camera set to continuous (about 3fps) trying to pan with the motion. I'll be uploading some of the better shots over the next several days. Nikon D80, Nikor 70-300 @ 2700mm F/5.6 shutter 1/1000

Correction, it was closer to 300 mph not 400 mph.

I was gonna say, pushing it 400! Especially for a precious aircraft like that! But! What a storming shot! Brilliant capture. 300mm is good but I tend use up to 200 on max quality exposure. Then I can zoom in if need be. You are so lucky over there. We have petty bureaucrats laying down so many rules, the aircraft are always miles away and above so number of feet! I look forward to seeing your next better shot! Rob.

Fantastic shot! The armor plate is becoming a more popular item but the prop is newer than I like . . . . . . and with a Lotus! That's cool, too!

What a great capture of a wickedly fast prop plane - the P-51 is my all-time fave!
