Oil on canvas 30x40 inches
Once again there's not much for me to say about this step , other than I'm still using oils like watercolors ... This could be a large watercolor painting at this point ... as I have'nt painted over anything , and have used no opaque paint .
I'm kinda like a kid at this point ...colorin... !!! honestly I'm still lookin for this painting, so I'm aproaching it this way!!!
I do'nt think I've ever followed a prescribed practice while painting .... I think I've allways aproached each painting differently .
By the way please do'nt tell vintorix that I'm still usin oils as watercolors .... as I think he intends to have me arrested for this .... ;)
KNOCK.. KNOCK... who is it? I ask ... It's the oil paint police .... !! O crap vintorix turned me in ... First offense 6 months in the oil cell....
tom
Once again I thank you all.... as you people inspire me , and often give me reasons to smile each day !!!!!

I love this, especially the transparent rock illusion. The lightness of the image gives the sense of a new day, bright and with hope. I get the sense of the resurrection, and completion of the redemptive action. Redemption moves from darkness and suffering to light, hope and joy. Fantastic! One suggestion, I would remove the wrinkled brow, as the centurion has realized the truth now. The sense of awe is what I would imagine for his face. There is an amazing thing that happens when one is touched by this truth for the first time. One recognizes their role in the suffering, but that touch creates such an incredible love, joy and peace that it is as if we are wrapped in light and happiness. That is the result of redemption, the debt is paid. Walk in light from here on. Sorry, for going on, I just have such a wonderful feeling from this painting.

This is so much fun watching your progress here. It's like watching a highlight film. all the best pictures and you are most kind to spare us the frustration that you must sometimes go through to achieve the effect you are after. Especially with your fluid style and technique..However becaue of my interest in your style I think I could watch this unedited (or without much editing) on TV as a series. .I know this is very difficult to do.... But I think it looks awesome and can't wait for the next post..... Excellent work Tom!!!... Keep on laughing too...it's good for ya!!!!!! Peace Rob

Looking good Tom. My new pattern when I come here...go back to your last post and read the comments from "yesterday"...glance at your progress on the canvas...finally, read today's comments. Then I am ready to say something...as weak as it may be:-) I also like to view all your WIP products side-by-side in your gallery as this presents quite a picture of progress by itself. I have no idea how any of us would react to being touched by the Master's hand...but the reaction would likely be overwhelming...ARTWITHIN got me thinking:)

Well I looked up some books and asked some knowledgeable people and no one had heard about this oilwatercolor trick so how does Tom expect to get away with this? The reason this painting and the story behind gives a strong message is because of the character of the soldier. I don't think that you ever have stopped and reflected, "what type of people got command and commission as a Roman centurion?" Do you think he was kind and polite to others? Showed compassion and empathy and helped his friends? Do you think he planted flowers in his spare time? Wrong! You became an officer by being ruthless and brutal and kill people. That is the sorry facts. And women and childs too. So, in this way the story gets another dimension...

besides the wonderful use of oils as watercolours (i hope your stay in the cell will be comfortable) and the wonderful progress of your image so far, i see you store your books in a similar way as i do :) always a pleasure to come here!

It's progressing beautifully! I think the outcome of this is going to be awesome as you find your to the finish. In the meantime, I hope you are allowed to continue working on this while doing your 6 months time in jail. That's a heck of a long time to wait for the next installation, LOL! Shall I bring cigarettes and chocolates when I come to visit? No matter if you don't smoke or don't eat chocolates, they are good trading materials .... grins
