Description
Jerry Lee Lewis, AKA "The Killer".
Jerry Lee tore up the 50's, being the original bad boy of Rock 'n Roll. The countless stories are legendary, and his craziness was way ahead of its time. But no doubt it also dampened his success because such behavior wasn't tolerated very much back in those days. But Jerry Lee didn't care, and that's a big part of his charm.
That and his wild, thumping piano playing too.
Over the years he expanded into country, blues, and even some gospel (his cousin is the fallen Pentecostal preacher Jimmy Swaggart). Jimmy said one of his life's goals was to "save" his cousin Jerry Lee. Well, Jimmy better focus on himself because Jerry Lee charts his own path, no matter where it may lead.
This photo was taken last weekend at the Beale Street Music Festival here in Memphis, Tennessee. It rained through Jerry Lee's entire show, but Jerry Lee didn't care. After he did "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going on" he turned to the crowd and said, "I heard some people back stage complaining about the rain, but hell, you're still alive aren't ya? You could be dead. Now THAT would mess up your afternoon, not this rain!"
Well put, Jerry Lee. Rock on.
This is my 2nd post from last weekend's festival. The first one can be seen Right Here.
