Description
Radiosity simulation. "Only" 18 lights in scene. Monges looks horrible close to camera, but looks enough good (I think) at small size. (I must learn alot about organic modelling). Trees are created by a tree generator (obviously to save time, I not modelled each leaf). Mostly textures are created capturing first a mesh screen, and from image editing software, I fit the stone maps to shapes and I painted the small details.
This manual lighting setup was fast to handle but architecture modelling was a hard work without planes or scketches. I has only a reference photo. (Thanks to Philip Greenspun).
The model is based on Barcelona Cathedral (the cloister) in Spain.

Oh yes!, I already knew that this image was well known for me. The "Barna's Cathedral" one of the best gothic style cathedrals of Spain. Very good work, modelling, lighting and textures. Saluts des de Malaga.

This is fabulous! Great modeling, texturing and mostly the lighting. You have picked a very nice place for a model.

great, as ever!!! I'm realy astonished, that you've got this lightning with only 18 lights! I tried to follow your "making off" about "The Junkyard", but now, as I'm slowly learning how to handle about 100 lights with instances, you say, you only need 18!! Oh man, I wish I could have a look about your shoulder when youre working :-) --- will there be a 'making of' for this one too?

This is beautiful. The lighting, the modeling, everything. Amazing work!
rovert
I love your work and have been waiting for a new one. Fantastic work.

Beautifully done, with all the details perfect--it was a good choice to keep the monks at a distance, they look fine there.
kromekat
Excellent architecture, lighting and texturing! - not sure that the monks add anything IMO, but I love it as a whole!! - very well done :)
Antoonio
...holy damn, is this perfect or what.
Hiram
Absolutely brilliant. Excellent modeling and textures; same on the lighting. The monks? You could have used poser figures if that wouldn't have been "cheating." Amazing work; thanks for sharing it!
MakinMagic
Wonderful, it'd be nice to compare it with the reference photograph.
dandavis
Nice to see a new post from you. Lovely work.

I am not a Cinema 4D user, but I know hard work and great talent when I see it. Very very nice!
nitro115
Topnotch work, nothing less than 10!
turner
the buildings are great , the lighting is great but......the two figures are too 'cartoon' like. I would take them out of the final pic

It's totally amazing scene with peaceful situation AND excellent lightning!!!!
Seven Wolves
Excellent modelling job!! I am totally jealous.

Excellent work :) J-L

another perfect scene ! outstanding work !
Nod
This is wonderful. The lighting is excellent and the textures are really, really good. I would have got rid of the monk in black, as he doesn't look as good as his mate. But apart from that, this is brilliant and you should send it in to 3D World magazine.
Rembrandt
The lightning is fantastic! Great Work!

Simply beautiful. The people look very slightly out of proportion, but its no big deal. Keep up the great work! =DBZ=
tattie
Technically this is Really nice work - Artistically - Personally I think that it would be better without the figures (which seem to be slightly out of Perspective Scale).
XSashaX
Amazing...amazingly beautiful.
Shademaster
Woa this is looking awesome! How much time did you save by using simulated radiosity instead of MonteCarlo Radiosity?? I am eager to know!

Stunning! ...... Speechless

Thanks for all comments. -To Erik "will there be a 'making of' for this one too?" mmmm, sorry but not probable. I haven't enough time at this moment to create a -making of- (it takes long time to create and I need make commercial work) But I will try get time to create it (I not promise you) -To Kromekat: "not sure that the monks add anything IMO," Please, what's IMO? sorry but I don't understand. (just curious) -To Makin Magic: "Wonderful, it'd be nice to compare it with the reference photograph." Yes, I will upload both images when I get some free time. - To Turner and Nod: Thanks for your constructive critique. - To Jops, DBZ and Tattie: Please, where is out of proportion, monks too big or monks too small? - To Shadermaster: "How much time did you save by using simulated radiosity instead of MonteCarlo Radiosity??" Final image was done using area shadows for the Sun. When scene is complex, area shadows takes long to render (almost like radiosity) and it takes several hours at 1440x1920 pixels. But all tests I done using soft shadows for the Sun,(map at 3000x3000) instead area shadows takes about 12 minutes to render at 600x800. - To all: EXCUSE MY ENGLISH! (Ha-ha, my friend Robert Jeffries from California, says I use Carlessian english. Monges=Monks :) Sorry. Of course, also thanks to all who placed nice comments.

as you asked me for, here is my statement to the proportions. In my opinion the left character is good as it is right now, but the right one is a bit compact. compared to the head an the shoulders he is to small. He looks a bit like a good trained person that sticks in the floor nearly to the knees. If you want him to be old and small you will have to make the width of the shoulders and the pelvis smaller. as well as the head it seams to be to big... I mean the small one has the big head and vice versa. and maybe you should shorten his arms a bit. If you want to let the proportions of the arms shoulders head and pelvis as they are you could make him taller and (or) the legs longer.

Awesome work! Very inspirational. You managed to capture realism as well as on the previous work ("Daylight"). You've certainly got a talent! Looking forward to seeing Your new artwork!

Impresionante!!!
