Description

Sandra46 I forgot your advice on 'Ester in Malta' and I paid the price. But I did one thing I went their at least one hour earlier, this helped me to meet few important figures behind the whole story. When I left home for the event it was your advice in my mind, but when I reached there I didn't use it properly.Full size availabe. Thank you all for your comments and interest. On this final moments I have made a grave mistake. Please forgive me. You know from the previous post that I was inside the boat house few moments ago. Quickly I ran out and took position to take the first two snaps, but that position was good only for those shots. To get the whole event I should have prefered a distant place. oops! everything happend in seconds. It took only 4 or 5 seconds for the boat to be completly on water and my camera couldn't meet the demand. My whole attention was to capture the moment of this boat touching the water for the first time in its life. I got it ( shot 4) but I lost 100s of men working behind it. The same happend to other two photographeres. One of them from a leading Newspaper approched me asking whether I got a good shot. Reason is none of us had an idea how quikly this is going to happen. As I was taking 1st shot local people warned me to move from there, they said 'it will come quickly'. But I never imagined anything like this. But there is hope. On comming August is the season of Snake Boat race with the arrival of our harvest festival 'Onam', Kerala's most important festival. So there will be many other lauchings. Next time I shall be careful. On last two shot I have marked against a person who was the 'Cheif' appointed for the construction of this Boat. I had a chance to talk with him, he explained many things to me, but he didn't pose for me for a snap.

Even if you missed the boat going in to the water you have provided us with a great view into how this was achieved in the first place. Excellent shots, thanks for sharing

This whole series on the snakeboat has been awesome! I have to say that your perspective really has worked well to show the amazing length of this boat. So thin and efficient for cutting resistance in the water. How exciting to have seen this and maybe to see it again later this year! phenominal work! You have a talent for chronicling things.
