UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Very nice capture!!!
blinkings
Nice Bill, although the focus for me is a little too much on the bowl instead of the bird. Sorry to be a grouch! I know nothing about birds so I'll be quite now. ;)
durleybeachbum
He's a bit blurry, but whattalottacolour! How about a bit of postwork to make a sockittoyou abstract?

What a gorgeous creature! The color is phenomenal. Wow. I've never seen one around here, and had no idea that red was so brilliant!

he sure seems to be protecting that bowl. Beautiful and inspiring work, thanks for all your advice and reviews on the cameras I can see you did your research on them and it certainly paid off, I am still looking and will keep you informed. Have a nice day! enjoy your seeds birdy :)
debbielove
blinkings said just what I was thinking! But, that said, my Camera would do JUST the same! Old 35mm you could focus and KNOW WHAT you would get. But now..... well! That said, it's still a really stunning bird! Better by miles than our 'browns' we get over here! (Mostly!) Top work. Rob.

Good shooting there. That bird has the stare of a hawk. Watch him, he might be one in disguise just watching the sparrow fatten up. Yum!
moonrancher
Wow! He's such an exciting find, and you don't have much time to get that focus perfect on the eyes and beak, and he's making such a show it'd be a shame to miss him altogether while you fussed with settings.

beautiful bird Bill

sooo wonderful !!!!

What vibrant colours.

Actually, in re blinkings and debbielove's comment, it isn't that the focus is on the bowl as much as it is the bright glare. The clarity of the bowl isn't any different between it and the intimidating birdie. Otherwise, vibrant colors and great composition, Bill.

These birds must make a wonderful splash of colour in the garden. A beautiful capture.

well you already know how I feel about this beautiful series, and I loved this shot too & will comment on it because it's "representative" of all you captured in this series. (I can't comment on everything I missed, obviously, but I can jump around and hit images as they call out to me.) I remember talk of the problems of capturing this bright red. But in this shot it glows as if the bird had light within. And I always zoom (hey, it's the size we uploaded, it's only fair!), and his stare is truly in our faces. And I really like the green & black bands in the background, as if nature put out a backdrop for the bird. (I assume it's a simple matter of varying focus...) Very sensitive shot, in a very sensitive series. And you know what? The food looks pretty good too! (I've been sick too long!) In a series of many postures & positions, this one is for the portraits. Love it.
