Description

Hawaii--you think of beaches, sand, water, blue skies. Then you get off the beaten path and discover its other face. Rolling hills, cattle, horses, wide open spaces. This is Waimea, Paniolo (cowboy) Country, another big surprise. **waimea

I'll bet that is some exclusive beef on the hoof out there. I know the ranches exist but I've never seen the scenery before. Nice shot of Hawaii's wild west...doesn't that sound funny?

Yes, Paniolo Country alright. The Hawaiian Cowboy. You captured it perfectly. It is also one of the largest privately owned ranch in America or the World. Aloha

You got me on this capture. I'm lost this time. My mother is from Waimea. My grandfathers house was right in the middle of town. When they needed to move the horse to another area, they would march about a hundred of them thru the streets. No one stayed on the streets during that time. The good ole days. Excellent shot of Parker Ranch....Home of the Hawaiian Cowboys. Aloha

Very interesting! Last night I watched a BBC programme about how various forms of life reached the further flung Pacific islands, (of which Hawaii if the furthest flung) and what with you and the Beeb I have doubled my knowledge overnight!

OK, call me stunted but I only think of beaches when I think of the Gulf Coast...duh. :-) Hawaii has always been, for me, the interior...the lush greens and mountains and hills... This is what I'd be looking for if I went for a visit. What a peaceful, tropical sight.

I love other faces of things...those things you don't see, and it's great to know that Hawaii has another face that goes beyond Dog the Bounty Hunter! You caught a great sense of space here, as well as a wonderful, openness that's immensely appealing. As always, your colors are gorgeous, but then you have the perfect eye for that!
