Description

Well until I get up to Bodie and take more shots, I wanted to continue my series on wild mustangs. On the way back from Bodie, my friend and I spotted a huge herd off in the distance. 130 total, with lots of babies! They were beautiful, but we noticed they were on "private" land, even though there was a huge gap in the fence (what you are seeing here. We are not sure if that means they are mingled with domestic horses or if the entire herd we saw was wild. There is really no way of knowing without contacting the owners of the property. What I hope is going on, is that the owners of the property have opened it up to the wild herds, so that they had a safe refuge. I will be keeping an eye on that area to see what happens, but in the mean time here is another link I found that you ought to check out: On H.R. 1018, Restore Our American Mustangs (ROAM) March 3, 2009 It is no longer realistic to expect all excess animals to be adopted or sold. Adoptions and sales of wild horses have steadily declined. Approximately 7,600 animals were placed in 2001; in 2008, 3,700 were placed. The most urgent issue is what to do with the tens of thousands of horses removed from the range in order to sustain the health of the public lands. The horns of a dilema! We have run out of room for them and in todays economy the means to keep them elsewhere. These are hard facts. A neat picture, a tough choice!

I think mankind does more harm to public lands than the horses ever thought of.they have been running free for so many years
