Description

Sometimes, playing in Vue feels like playing with Lego. :-) You have a scene, made of several elements, and you move and rotate the elements, add or remove one or the other element, and you have a different scene, just like in Lego. A few days ago I made "Shores of Orion", link below. I wanted to see the same basic setting in a "normal" way so I made a few changes and here it is the new version. Maybe it's interesting for some of you what I did and why, so here it is: First wave of changes: - Removed the blue sun. Consequentely, the sky lost its greenish tone. - Raised the altitude of the atmosphere, to make this more Earth-like. As consequence, the stars disappeared. - Removed the building on the right and moved the mountain nearer to the camera and populated it with trees, to make this a more friendly place, with vegetation. - Made the terrain smoother to address feedback I received to the first version. - Changed the material from a purely procedural to a mixture of bitmap and procedural, for more realism in an Earth-like environment. - Removed the ecosystem of rocks and small grains of sand (because the new material was now interesting enough, it didn't need any additional items). - Increased the cloud cover percentage... just because. :-) With the first wave of changes the image lost its compositional balance, so I needed to recover it. So, a 2nd wave of changes was needed: - Created a rock on the right in the midground and populated it with some trees, to balance the visual strength of the sun in the image. - Created another mountain on the left to balance the mountain on the right, which gained visual importance in the first wave of changes. - Moved the character to the left, to further balance the image in what concerns items on the midground. - Moved the birds to the left because the trees occupied the space they were in previously. - Because both the sky and the immediate foreground lost visual importance in this new version, I changed the image ratio from 4:3 to 16:10, therefore allowing the viewer a bigger focus on the rest of the elements. thumb_1882849.jpg Thanks for watching! Very nice work. But I think I like the first one more. But who cares what an old bloke has to say ?

Both images are superb, each in its own way. Much as I like the unreality of the first image, I really enjoy the realism achieved here. Wonderful composition and mood.

Excellent. The first one has a more alien feel to it, however in the second one the fabulous terrain is better presented. I like them both!

The stream looks very placid in this one. It seems a regular place now. It's like looking into an alternate time-line. Pretty cool.

Artur, I like them both and hadn't seen the first one until now. Those black objects on the left in the foreground; are they birds? I think they spoil, what would otherwise be an exceptional render. Still, very well done and thank you for the explanation. :-)

Very beautiful images! The changes make them very different in atmosphere and feel. They're both gorgeous. However, I think that I prefer the first one. I'm a huge sci-fi fan and love alien worlds. The two suns gives the first one a "2010" feel. Very excellent work on both!!

Going back and forth between the two, I have to say the first one is more compelling, although the terrain material in this one is definitely better. I have to agree with the Leggo statement. Most times when I do a render in Vue, I have two or three versions, then try and decide which one is better - a process sometimes taking almost as long as the actual render!

Excellent picture. I like both - each has its own coolness factor. Love the unreality of the first, love the beautiful sky and composition in the second. The only thing I would tweak are the two rocks in the front. They cast long shadows that distract the viewers. Otherwise, it's really cool work.
