I am not one to applaud fire but in Alaska fire is essential to the health and well being of the total ecology there. Lightening strikes are the cause. Our biggest problem with fire today is when we build homes in the middle of forrested areas.

I don't know what happens after a fire of this magnitude, but I would send in a crew and cut down all the stumps and plant new trees to replace those lost. It would of course be best to try and learn from the disaster, as to leaving bigger firebreaks etc. A sad scene but an excellent and informative picture Richard. Bravo!!!!!

It's sad, but it's a cycle of nature and very necessary. I always feel so sad for the animals that were displaced or killed. Great shot!
