Description

This is an experiment - for Savage_Dragon, who never stops experimenting... I took a little time off work to play with some of my recent TG2 renders. Using filters is quite a radical departure for me - I prefer to set up all render parameters in the program I'm using (TG or Vue), usually with a single light source (the sun). I promise I'll move on now... Craig thumb_1885463.jpg

You've gotten some great effects here, Craig. Have you checked out Filter Forge? They offer a free month's trial. It's a really great program. You can even create your own filters and earn the program by submitting your new filter. I just won FF in a competition at graphics.com with my image, "Woven Portrait. Keep up the cool experiments!

Kind of like Warhol meets Ansel Adams...excellent experimentation Craig, love the combination.I too was once a purist when it came to using filters, but once I saw how they can take the image to the next level,I must confess that I like what they can achieve...keep playing Craig!

The ones on your left are my favs... the intense reds of the sunset are superb and draw the eye.. the one right below could well be a planet with a gaseous atmosphere. Love them all but those two are a 'thumbs' up for sure.

I can see that all four are of the same scene, but the filtering makes them different enough that they appear to be slightly different places. The top-left has a dramatic dawn or sunset-ish feel, bathed in rich golden-browns. The top right has detail & hue that appear out of a vast desert-scape; the furrows & ridges are pronounced and are quite beautiful. The bottom left is something out of science fiction, or a strangely exposed shot. (In my photoshop paintings, I explore that very phenomenon, how filters reveal the line-contours of shapes—as they do here—and how those lines can be art all by themselves. This image is a fine piece of exposed contours: They really speak in this version.) And the bottom-right is bathed in deep restful blues, with plenty of deep shadow. They demonstrate one of the joys of filters, how they transform a single vision into different worlds. Very enjoyable all around, I never tire of this myself.
