Description
Captured 5/25/09, at the beautiful Los Angeles National Cemetery in beautiful West Los Angeles, California.
More than 86,000 veterans, going back to the Civil War, are interred there.
Actually, these were just the preparations to the official Memorial Day ceremonies, with the troops, composed of Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, Coast Guard, Civil War reps, veteran's groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and contingents I never even heard of before, all shaping up and preeming themselves, getting set to march off to the speakers' stand, an event which took forever to get started.
And yes, they were standing and moving about between and betwixt the flags and tombstones of the buried veterans.
I took a total of 276 photos while there, so I have to collage these like mad for the sake of expediency.
This was not an easy task, what with slogging miles/kms through thick grass for shots of the tombstone area, interspersed with respectfully elbowing the other paparazzo for POV photography room around the parade area. Hence, when I got done at the end of all the trudging and shooting and finally returned to my car, I was soaked in perspiration, despite it being a cool day.
Plus, it was a rather dark day under leaden skies, so these pics are being postworked beyond comprehension. Without Photoshop, forget about taking pictures.
Incidentally, news reporters and video photogs from local news affiliates such as ABC, NBC and CBS were also there.
Thankx for the visit, and have a tendentiously temporal Tuesday.

Great work, Harry! I know the difficulties of working with a leaden sky...you did wonders. It's so nice to see all these people showing respect for the fallen...

You did a great job of making a day of it and then working it all over just to share with us. Nice pics of an event I'd not see otherwise, thanks so much for your efforts!!

You did great under poor light conditions; it was a grey day here too. Excellent shots!

Thanks Harry...in this case for your service at the cemetery on our behalf. Photographing the color guard was a great way to begin your coverage. Your postwork has paid handsome dividends!

So great that so many paid their respects to the fallen. And rightly so.... Only thing wrong......for a ceremony, look a bit chaotic? But hey! Could be setting up? Great pics anyway. Rob.
