richardphoto had uploaded a image of the painted dessert a few days ago. it a over all veiw of the place and here I uploading a image of just a part of the dessert; like a detail but I just zoomed in on this. I had a manul len on the camera that is 70mm x270mm or is it 280mm. anyway I like the abswtract it makes of the land as I zoom in on stuff

Wow, rough and ready terrain most evident in this neato capture, Jock. Terrific variety of textures.

Painted indeed. To answer Jocko's question, the redbeds are colored with iron (ferric) oxide (think rust), while the whiter layers are probably thin, well-weathered limestones, or limey siltstones (notice how they top or defend many of the small ridges). If this was closer to Utah, my guess would be the strata are part of the Moenkopi Group (Triassic age).

It's all there by mother nature jocko that's all you need to think about as it's been there and some changes appear now and then from dryness and salt(Or so my friends that live there talk about) however who told them lol::??? lovely capture I hope you framing some of these they are worth it !!
