Description

I want one, but I have no where to put him. They are so cute. I love otters. This is the male from Busch Gardens. I took a lot of pictures of them, but this was the best.He loves people, and attention. His fur looks ruff, but in fact is very soft and water repellent. Eurasian otter - This species (Lutra lutra) inhabits Europe, and its range also extends across most of Asia and parts of North Africa. In the British Isles they occurred commonly as recently as the 1950s, but became rare in many areas due to the use of chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides and as a result of habitat-loss and water pollution (they remained relatively common in parts of Scotland and Ireland). Population levels attained a low point in the 1980s, but are now recovering strongly. The UK Biodiversity Action Plan envisages the re-establishment of otters by 2010 in all the UK rivers and coastal areas that they inhabited in 1960. Roadkill deaths have become one of the significant threats to the success of their re-establishment. - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Thank you for coming and taking a look. Thank you for all the comments on my previous post, They mean the world to me. Cheri

Oh I love them, too, but doubt they would get along with my dogs and cats. ;c) Excellent capture.

Utterly fine capture of the otter, Cheri! Since I'm new to your gallery, I'll just have to assume that's it's okay to call you Cheri at this juncture. Overall terrific textures and water reflections in this one.

I've always wanted one as a pet since being a kid. They're supposed to be easy to train, and so playful, but I think I would have a hard time of it, knowing they belong out there. Cheri took over two hours just deciding what she was going to post, trying to find something worthy of you,......and probably to draw attention away from yesterday's. She's sneaky that way. This was a great capture, and turned out the best of several shots, I wish some of the others had turned out better, but it was really hard to get something clear through the glass. I'm glad she's felling better, but still greatly looking forward to the next time she doesn't feel up to posting....I still owe you sweetie!! Dave

Really like this photo at the zoom level. Shooting in zoos through glass is challenging...I've only done it once but will go back for a retry this summer. Keep up the good work!!!

Otters rock, I love it when they float on their backs, dining on oysters or whatever else they may find. They are incredibly cute, and clever, and I think that they are the secret rulers of the world...or co-rulers with cats. But that's just my theory. I love the details here, the water-spiky hair, the sense of motion, and yeah, the cuteness of a creature that is very camera friendly.
