Description

I told you we are into RPG here. This is one of the massive battles the boys, Dave and his sons, have engaged in. The table is a ping pong table they have modified into a huge battle field. They once had a game last 8 months, playing almost every weekend from 10am Saturday to 1 or 2am the next morning and getting up and doing it again until after supper on Sunday night. I have no idea how many characters they start out with on each side. Dave has an Elf army, his oldest son has Dwarfs, and his youngest son, the Empire and Britonians. They combine forces and go up against Chaos, skaven, undead, daemons, and vampires just to name a few. They will fight it out to the death, or last man standing. That's why it can take so long. I like to go down and get pictures of the board as the battle progresses. One year I took those pictures and made a huge collage for each one of his sons as Christmas presents. His oldest son is far more into it then his brother, and I thought he was going to cry when he opened it. We also play Warhammer on a much smaller scale as well. We go on quests. I like those, and have three characters, a princess, a warrior princess, and still in development a vampire who is also a vampire slayer. The quest take a less time to run through and to me seems like more of an adventure. I get to be tough, which I am not normally. These are nine of the photos I have taken, of one of the big battles. I hope you enjoy them. Thank you for looking. Thank you for all the comments on my previous posts, they mean the world to me. Friends Always, Cheri Collage made using Photoscape.

Just an FYI concerning the game. Typically one army is pitted against another and is only to last so many turns, (a 2000 point each side battle will last generally about 3 to 4 hours). We typically play everything against everything with my elf army alone, well over 100,000 point, we are also generally out numbered about two to one. I'm not aware of anyone else ever, playing on such an epic scale. I find it interesting that Cherie would post this, and am looking forward to seeing what kind of attention it gets as it certainly is just a tiny bit outside the norm. Personally, I love it!!

WOW. This rocks. I don't exactly do the RPG thing, just because I never got around to it, but I can get the whole appeal of it, as well as understand the need for a ping-pong-table-sized playing field. I collect Star Wars action figures, and need nothing less than an entire room for the dioramas I make for them. (Thanks to Corey, I discovered yet another use of duct tape...two words: Hull Plating.) Anyway...this is a fun picture. Do you have any others you'll be posting.

If any one of you have ever gone through a real battle field, like that in sri Lanka, Palestine, Iraq, Afganistan, etc, you wouldn't say it is great to play game like this, because it gives you only nightmares. Well done, this is what they have for their children. 'You harvest what you saw.' This is only my opinion. Nothing with personal.

I have never played using figures like this but I do enjoy role playing on the computer, I have several games for this sort of thing. A few Lord of the Rings is one, War Hammer is another, not played any for quite some time though. Superb collage, I would love to see more. Bravo!!!!!

This is Dave, I can't comment again so This was my only option. greensleeves81, I understand your opinion, but am a bit confused by your statement (If any one of you have ever gone through a real battle field, like that in sri Lanka, Palestine, Iraq, Afganistan, etc, you wouldn't say it is great to play game like this, because it gives you only nightmares.)This is to say that the game is wrong because it potrays a battle like atmosphere? My question then would be, does this mean I should no longer play chess, Stratego, Risk, Checkers, etc. The list would be rather lengthy and I haven't even gotten to physical sports yet. The game potrayed above is a fantasy battle, based on strategy, much like those I've listed. I understand that war is hell in real life, as is all violence. My boys are adults, and I assure you that they were raised to learn one reaps what they sow. We aren't running around terrorizing the people of this city with swords and magic spells. Dave

Oh lordy! One of my best friends and his buddies played Warhammer 40K for a long time. I could never remember what it was called, and always called it Warmonger 64. They play RPG every weekend, and have been doing it since they were in high school. Now they spend a long of time on WoW, as well. This is very familiar to me!

great shots... As long as the boys know the difference between the game and reality, And it sounds like you have fine boys who would know the difference.
