Description

» — Marcelle Ferron Marcelle Ferron Archive Video Thanks Magik

Very interesting sculpture and bio on the artist. Here is an English translation of the text, via Google language tools: Sculpture in the Metro in Montreal The Montreal Metro is filled with an array of public art, commemorations of the city's history in the original network abstractions to innovative extensions, through several of the biggest names in the cultural universe Quebec . Métro Vendôme (Montreal) Sculpture: height 2.3 m length × 13.3 m × 2.5 m depth; mass 900kg, stainless steel. Biography of the Artist: Marcelle Ferron Born: 29 January 1924 in Louiseville (Mauricie) Died: 19 November 2001 in Montreal One of the most significant artists of the twentieth century Quebec, Marcelle Ferron arrived in Montreal in 1940 after his expulsion from the École des beaux-arts de Québec after a disagreement with a teacher. In Montreal she met Paul-Émile Borduas, and became an ardent partisan of artistic ideals and political Automatistes. It became a signatory of the famous manifesto Refus global in 1948. In 1953 she moved to Paris with her three daughters, during his stay of thirteen years, she participated in several exhibitions, making his work known to a wider public, and she studied the art of glass with the glass master Michel Blum. It was one of the first women to win a silver medal at the Biennale of São Paulo. His dedication to the policy of returning the left often in difficulties: his association with an activist against the regime of Franco won him the expulsion from France. After his return to Quebec in 1966, she became a professor at Laval University, and continued his artistic and political projects. His dispute with Robert LaPalme, artistic director of the subway, on its draft window to Champ de Mars opened the way to the art non-representationel on the subway. Now this window is considered a masterpiece of Mrs. Ferron. It also drew several large stained glass windows for public buildings across Quebec, including several for the program by 1%. She received several awards and recognitions, including grants from Arts Council in 1958 and 1972, the price-Philippe Hébert of the Société Saint-Jean-Baptiste in 1977, the Paul-Émile Borduas in 1983, the first woman laureate this honor and the Order of Quebec to the rank of Chevalier in 1985 and Grand Officer in 2000. After his death, she was honored in the names of several streets in Quebec which Tétreaultville in the neighborhood of the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, 2005. "My aim has always been modest, I wanted to turn this marriage of convenience [between art and architecture] in a marriage of love. " - Marcelle Ferron
