Description

This is a statue of the Blessed Virgin,in the gardens of the Painted Church in Hawaii. She's been adorned with hundreds of shell leis, most likely from people either thanking her for prayers answered, or asking for help. There are also other special gifts at her feet, wrapped in what I think are banana leaves. Yet another beautiful way the spiritual side of Hawaii shows itself. (I tried to straighten this, because it does seem like she's leaning a bit, almost as though the leis were pulling her over. But it didn't work, it chopped half her head off, so I let it be.)

She does seem to be leaning slightly Marylin, but some times it adds character to an image and as you say it seems like the leis are pulling her over. Wonderful warm tones here, an excellent image. Bravo!!!!!

Most statues of the Blessed Mother lean slightly forward, Marilyn. It's almost as if she beckoning anyone who seeks her help thru prayer. Very warm capture.

A wonderful image - there's so much feeling in it! (Remind me to tell you how to fix the problem with the tilt and cutting off her head.)

There is something deliciously raw about this...I think it's the sense of spirituality that is somewhat less stylized than the statue that focuses that attention. Fantastic, sensitive work. I particularly like your capture of textures and color here, and though it's bright, there isn't "too much" to distract, and you walk a fine balance here. As always, really good work here. I like the mood as well.

another example of how you seek out the fantastic and visionary. This is a beautiful Mary, and the fact that she's tilting is, for me, quite in harmony with her essence. I love the leis on her, and since her arms are either hidden by the leis or hidden by her gown, she appears all verticals, so those leis give great adornment to her form. And you captured it from below, where we see all the detritus of leis & gifts surrounding her, and they all meld into the high growth itself, so it works harmoniously. Terrific shot, and a great symbol of a faith turned into a wholly human phenomenon. Wonderful.
