Description

"It knows my name, doesn't it? It knows my name." --The Haunting of Hill House, Shirley Jackson. This one is inspired by my all-time favorite ghost story. It's a great novel. The original classic 1960s black and white film version is also an atmospheric masterpiece in my opinion. I first saw it on TV when I was a child with my mother. I've seen it many times since. It's a great study in psychology and I love how it leaves so much to the imagination. I'm playing again with all this software. I always learn something new. This was an experiment to make the scene look like something I might see on an old TV with some spooky effects woven in. I've been working on it for a long while, but decided it was time to let it go. Daz Studio, Filter Forge, Artmatic pro Victoria 3 from daz Thanks for looking and for all of your comments. : )

though there are a number of images I want to sit with, I didn't want to leave the site this morning before I shared my feelings on this. This is one of the things you do so well, this sumptuous shaping of space, your light & shade in beautiful interaction like a big undulant blanket, a beautiful use of lights in the midst of shadow & darkness, and how the whole environment reflects the fear & emotion lurking in the woman. I love the tapestry/scarf hanging in the background and the amorphous forms of shadow around it, etc. I saw this when it went up and was struck by the way the whole scene reflects & undulates with the fear of your main character. I don't know the tale, but you sure caught the essence of ghost tales overall; and I like that you didn't feel compelled to use more light: You trusted the dark to reveal what it had to. I think it's splendid Cathy. I'll be back in a day or so, but had to comment on this now! Wonderful moody piece, and very sensual.

The black and white really adds to the scary mood of this one. Good job on the expression of the character as well. Well done!

I never saw the movie -as far as I know- but know what you mean and I love how you tried to catch those old movie feelings on this Render. I have to think back at those moments when i was young and was allowed to watch the Deadly Ernest horror show.
